Things to See on The Annapurna Circuit Trek Route
The beginning of our Annapurna full circuit trek tour starts in the lower elevation of the Himalayan zone, where you are confronted with many waterfalls. This zone is full of lush green forests, and you can see many tabletop mountain villages with their beautiful, terraced farming.
Once the elevation goes higher, you will find a beautiful alpine forest with mesmerizing views. After this, you will journey into a cold, treeless desert which is exceptionally beautiful and looks like a fine painting.
Our Annapurna circuit trek 2023 starts from Chame (2,630meters, 8,629 ft). Chame is a small and beautiful village in the Annapurna zone, and then we proceed to higher elevations day by day.
We will stay and visit many places like Pisang, Manang, Khangsar, Tilicho Base Camp, Tilicho Lake, Yak Kharka, Throng Phedi, Thorong La Pass, Muktinath, Kagbeni, and Jomsom during our 16 day Annapurna full circuit trek. You can also catch glimpses of Poon Hill and the Annapurna sanctuary. The highest and toughest elevation we will cross during the trek is Throng La Pass (5,416 meters. 17,769 feet). The beautiful Annapurna circuit trek route goes past the following mountains:
Manaslu (8,163 meters, the eighth highest mountain). Langtang Himal. Annapurna II and IV. Annapurna III. Gangapurna.
Annapurna I (8,091 meters, is the tenth highest mountain). Dhaulagiri (8,167 meters, the seventh highest mountain).
We will see unique Buddhist culture once we reach Chame. In Chame, Pisang and Manag, you will find Gurung people with their unique cultural heritage but in Mustang (Muktinath, Kagbeni, Jomsom) you will find some truly Tibetan Buddhists (in fact, once upon a time, Mustang was part of Tibetan History).
Here you can witness the true Tibetan Buddhist culture. Braga, one of the oldest monasteries, is situated in this region. We will also see one of the most beautiful high-altitude lakes in the world, called Tilicho Lake, during our trek.
Once you get down from Thorong La Pass, you will reach Muktinath, a holy place for Hindus and Buddhists. Muktinath is a small pagoda-style wooden temple at an elevation of 3,800 meters (12,467 feet). This is a stunning destination that you will see on the Annapurna circuit trek tour. Muktinath is a prominent temple in Nepal, and lots of people visit this temple from India and Nepal.
Once you trek down from Muktinath through the mighty Kali Gandaki River, you will find a completely different zone. You can enjoy the views of treeless gray mountains and sky burials on the cliffs with other trekkers. You can also check our Annapurna Base Camp Trek tour.

On the third day of our Annapurna Circuit Trek Itinerary, we will drive to Chame by jeep. The road journey is adventurous as the road goes alongside the Marshyangdi River. We can see a lot of ups and downs. Today we will pass the older part of the Chame, then hike to Telekhu at 2,840 meters and continue the Annapurna circuit trek with Tilicho Lake through the forest to Brathang. After some distance, we will see the first view of the Paungda Danda rock face, a strangely curved rock rising more than 1500 meters from the river. We will cross the Marshyangdi River on a suspension bridge and then make a gradual climb over a ridge through beautiful pine forests.
Today we will trek to a Tibetan-style village called Bryaga, which is in the valley. This is a spectacular Buddhist village with typical Tibetan-style homes and a beautiful Monastery overlooking the village. Then we will continue our Annapurna circuit trek through the very arid countryside, full of spectacular cliffs of yellow stones that are abraded and transformed into pillars alongside the trail to reach our destination; the village of Manang. Manang is one of the spectacular villages in this area, and almost everything is available in this small town.
Today is a rest day in Manang. The town is situated in the big valley of the Marshyangdi River to the north of the Annapurna Mountain range, and we will explore the spectacular surroundings. Also, we can do a day hike to an icy lake above Braga.
After our rest day at Manang, we continued our trek to Khangsar. From Manang, we head out through the western gates and follow the path down to the river. We cross the river and continue walking on its southern side through the beautiful pine forest. Khangsar is a beautiful old Tibetan-style village.
Today we will be trekking to the Tilicho Base Camp. This is a relatively challenging day. The trail is broad enough for a good trekking experience. On our way, we will visit a monastery. We will have 2 trails, but we are taking the newly built trail as it is safer and much less strenuous. This trial will take us to the adjacent valley and stream flows below. We will then cross over for Tilicho Base camp, which is at an altitude of 4, 150 meters.
We will be starting early for Tilicho Lake. It is likely to take about 3 to 4 hours to reach Tilicho Lake. It is one of the beautiful freshwater lake systems in the highest peaks of the Himalayas and one of the high-altitude lakes in the world. We will spend about an hour returning to Tilicho Base Camp.
We will be trekking upwards from Khangsar and will cross the remains of the old Khangsar settlement. We will be going on regular trekking trails, descending and crossing a river to reach Yak Kharka.
Today will be a slow-paced Annapurna circuit trek with amazing views till Thorong Phedi. Thorong Phedi is at the base of the highest pass in this region called Thorong la. It offers wonderful views of the landscapes and high peaks. This is a small settlement that serves as a gateway for many parts of the region. We can reach the high camp if your speed is good.
Today is the longest and toughest expedition of the entire Annapurna circuit trail. We leave Thorong Phedi early in the morning by 5 am for a climb to the pass called Thorong La (5, 416 meters, 17, 769 ft), with packed lunch. It is a different experience to cross Throng La. We will start early in the morning because the wind speed is very heavy after 10 am. The first part of the trail becomes steepest initially and reaches the high camp. Once we reach, the very pass itself is at 5, 416 meters. We will get a jaw-dropping panoramic view of the majestic Himalayan peaks extending northwards into Tibet, and looking back; we can see several of the main peaks of Annapurna.
